HELLO LOVELIES . . .

WHAT HAVE YOU OBSERVED THIS WEEK?

It matters not if it be a mini or mega observation.

Take for instance this heart-eyed truck that was starring back at me, when my soul really needed a smile.

If you’ve been noticing, then kudos to you for your curiosity and attentiveness to this beautiful—and jarring—thing called life.

I heard someone say (probably Mel Robbins) that keeping your word—fulfilling promises you make to yourself— is one of the greatest ways to build self-confidence. For instance, If you say you’re going to get up early or go to the gym, keep your word. I really could use a little more confidence (couldn’t we all?), and thus, you are getting this unperfected, unpolished, format-likely-to-change post.

School is officially out, it was fun to idealize a totally slack schedule for a day or two, but now we are onto serious football schedules and the insasiatable social life of high schoolers which seemingly requires stealth strategy and a lot of “yeses.” The end of this school year felt a little melancholic for me as my 8th grader will be switching schools (I’m so grateful for the school we landed at when we moved four years ago.) It seems, change is still not my favorite and I haven’t gone up many points in “adaptibilty.” I was so focused on accepting the idea of this school change (and all of the insane paperwork—digital of course—that comes with it), along with another child’s end of year finals that it hadn’t completely dawned on me that my 8th grader, soon to be 9th grader, going to the big public school, means my youngest child is now in high school. I don’t think I’m quite ready for that. I know how fast high school goes.

I hope you have easied (or are easing) into summer after the circus that May can be, if you have school-aged children.

THE OBSERVATIONS

  • Are you your ally? I think it has finally dawned on me that, for the most part, I work against myself. I’m not referring to self-sabotage (which is an interesting topic itself, one I touch on here), but rather the barrage of negative self-talk. There is no way I’d speak to a friend the way I talk to myself. How can we ever win if we are against ourselves? (Cue Romans 8).

  • Phones are for phone calls. Isn’t it ironic that we likely talk less on the phone than any other activity we use our phones for? I love a good phone conversation (I wish I still had a landline). Apparently (and disturbingly), talking on the phone is becoming a lost art, and Gen Z is seeking help.
